The Habitat Nationwide Journalist/Writer is the media author and reporter primarily responsible for monitoring, reporting and documenting all real estate, hospitality technology and motoring related news, events, exhibitions, promotions etc across Nigeria. The ideal candidate must be able to readily demonstrate  detailed knowledge and interests across all the indicated sectors.

The Person

The Habitat Nationwide Journalist/Writer will be highly presentable and versatile with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good literary skills are essential and desirable for this position.

The ideal candidate must be able to author several well researched and publication-grade news, events and lifestyle articles on different areas of the Nigerian real estate, hospitality and transportation industries on a weekly basis. They must also display a strong understanding of the legal ramifications and ethical significance of referencing and plagiarism as it applies to publications authorship.

The ideal candidate must have an outgoing and positive attitude required to interact with high profile stakeholders across the covered sectors as the candidate will be required to regularly conduct face to face interviews with various stakeholders in these sectors.

Flexibility and ability and willingness to travel at very short notice while identifying, following and reporting on industry related news, events and exhibitions as they happen and transforming these into high quality publication articles will be the primary objectives and focus of the Habitat Nationwide Journalist/Writer.

Qualifications

The Habitat Nationwide Journalist/Writer will be educated to a degree/HND level at a minimum and ideally in Mass Communications, English or other relevant disciplines. Graduates from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism with relevant experience are also welcome to apply.

Candidates with very strong literary skills (and a bias for writing/reporting) but with qualifications in other fields are also invited to apply.

Required Knowledge

1. Knowledge of Nigeria's real estate industry plus all ancillary services and service providers
2. Knowledge of housing issues in Nigeria and factors affecting growth and development at both state and federal level
3. Knowledge of current housing and land registry legislations
4. Knowledge of Nigeria's hotel and hospitality industry
5. Knowledge of Nigeria's travel and tourism industries
6. Extensive knowledge of the states and geographical regions of Nigeria and points of interest
7. Knowledge of Nigeria's transport and motoring industry and all ancillary services
8. Knowledge of current transport and motoring legislations and the industry in general.
9. Knowledge of Nigerian consumer technology market.

Required Experience

A minimum of 1 year experience as a news reporter, journalist, writer, market researcher for a small, medium or large print publication company within the last 5 years is a major requirement. Candidates with a background in sales and marketing coupled with previous experience in the Nigerian real estate, hospitality, consumer technology or motoring sectors who are able to meet the above indicated role and personal requirements, especially in respect of researching and authoring publication-grade articles will have a distinct advantage.

Representing a company employing the convergence of Internet, Print and Digital technologies, the Habitat Nationwide Journalist/Writer should ideal possess the following:

• Experience of arranging and conducting telephone and face-to-face interviews with businesses and individuals at all levels
• Experience of operating a dictaphone and digital camera
• Experience of converting audio material into text format
• Experience of using text and graphic editing software (such as Adobe Photoshop and PaintShop Pro ), MS Word, Outlook and Powerpoint, IE and Firefox web browsers

Additional Skills

• Ability to work in a team and to strict deadlines
• Ability to schedule and manage own workload, develop own leads and follow through to completion

Remuneration

Up to N600,000 (gross) per annum (depending on experience) + transportation allowance + bonuses.
