Speaking at the weekend in Abuja, newly-elected President of Real Estate Development Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Chief Olabode Afolayan, said happenings around the world have shown that the real estate sector remains the most potent tool in battling economic recession.

According to Afolayan, REDAN was ready to negotiate with governments at the federal and state levels to generate employment for the army of unemployed youth, whilst constructing good and affordable housing units.

“We may be building up to 500,000 houses at a time in a year, and you can imagine the quantity of cement, roofing sheets, asbestos, nails and all sorts of building materials that would be involved,” Afolayan stated, stressing, “apart from engaging our army of unemployed youth, all these will require so much building materials in such a way that the manufacturing sector will begin to operate at optimal capacity.”
